MAGQUIP SUPRSEP Rare Earth Drum Separator (REDS)

High-Intensity Rare Earth Drum Separator for Dry Mineral Concentration

The MAGQUIP SUPRSEP Rare Earth Drum Separator (REDS) is a high-efficiency permanent magnetic drum separator designed for the dry separation, concentration, and upgrading of weakly magnetic materials. Fitted with powerful rare earth neodymium magnets, the SUPRSEP drum generates high-intensity magnetic fields ideal for fine to coarse particle sizes ranging from 100 microns to 50 mm.

Powerful Magnetic Performance

At the heart of this separator is an axial alternating pole magnetic element with an arc coverage between 180° and 210°, delivering surface field strengths of up to 6000 gauss. This configuration ensures effective magnetic capture and retention across a wide range of materials, including heavy mineral sands, rare earth ores, industrial minerals, and metallic fines from recycling streams.

Flexible Multi-Pass Design

The MAGQUIP REDS unit is available in single-pass or two-stage configurations, allowing for enhanced separation efficiency through middlings retreat or multiple product splits. Output streams typically include:

  • Magnetics

  • Non-magnetics

  • Middlings (optional retreat)

Engineered for Operational Flexibility

Standard drum diameters include 450 mm and 600 mm, with magnet widths from 300 mm up to 1500 mm. Custom widths and feed assemblies can be configured to suit plant layout and capacity requirements, ensuring seamless integration into your dry processing circuit.

Key Features:

  • Rare earth permanent magnet system for sustained high-intensity fields

  • Dry operation – no water or slurry handling required

  • High recovery and product grade in a compact footprint

  • Low maintenance design with robust construction for industrial environments

  • Suitable for mineral sands, rare earth elements, non-ferrous recycling, and more

Material is fed from the hopper at a controlled rate onto the rotating drum shell (The feed may be presented to the top of the drum or as a ‘falling curtain’ adjacent to the drum periphery.) Magnetic particles are then deflected and held against the drum shell surface; the non-magnetic particles follow their normal trajectory. Splitters divert the particles into the outlets and chosen chute arrangement.

Various factors affect the performance of the MAGQUIP Rare Earth Drum [REDS]

Including Feed rate, drum speed & splitter position

Remove weakly magnetic particles from dry granular materials that are feebly magnetic (paramagnetic).

Typical applications and specific minerals treated are:

Concentration of: Limonite, Iron, Manganese and Nickle ores.

Removal of Pyrrhotite from nickel-copper ores.
Removal of chromite, Garnet, and Ilmenite from diamondiferous concentrates.
Removal of serpentine from magnesite.
Selective separation of Ilmenite, Garnet, Monazite.
Separation of Chrome from Silica Sand.
Recovery of ferrochrome and ferromanganese from slags.
Typical size range of material treated from 100 microns to 50 mm

The advantages of the MAGQUIP Rare Earth Drum Separator include:

  • MAGQUIP SUPRSEP magnet axial pole Rare Earth element producing maximum flux density via novel magnet pole arrangement
  • Accurately manufactured thin wall drum shell with minimal drum magnet gap, precision manufactured to close tolerance on diameter.
  • Option of high-strength fibre reinforced composite plastic; coated with two layers abrasion resistant; ‘Epoxy Gelcoat’, Two colours used for wear induction.
  • High temperature Rare Earth permanent magnet grades available for elevated material temperatures
  • Sophisticated control panel enclosure featuring PLC features for advanced component control and feedback with HMI
  • Compact modular enclosure with easy door panel access, with optional dust extraction ports
  • Direct drive to drum by shaft mount type geared motor. Reduced motor power with non-metallic shell option means ‘eddy current drag’ effect.
